Simply Helping ACT and Queanbeyan owner Ann Avci, the heart of our business, shares her journey of how she found her calling in aged and community care and how it led her to start Simply Helping ACT and Queanbeyan.

“My path to Simply Helping began over 20 years ago in Melbourne,” Ann said.

“After completing high school and starting university, I quickly realised sitting behind a desk in lab tech wasn’t for me.”

“I wanted to be with people, to make a difference in their lives.”

This desire led her to aged care, where she found a true passion for providing support to individuals and their families.

From humble beginnings as a personal carer, Ann’s career flourished, and she became the manager of a nursing home at just 21 years old. The experience shaped her deeply, teaching her the value of care, relationships, and the importance of going beyond the basics.

“My passion for personalised care continued to grow,” Ann said.

“After moving to Canberra, I took on the role of Area Coordinator, overseeing 50 sites and managing a large team.”

“But despite my success, my heart remained in caring for people directly, and I knew I wanted to return to aged and community care.”

In her time as a case manager, Ann worked with a gentleman who was bedridden and whose family struggled to provide round-the-clock care. With Ann and her team’s support, he received the care he needed, along with meaningful companionship and outings that brought him joy in his final years. This experience reaffirmed Ann’s commitment to making a lasting, positive impact on people’s lives.

Ann’s decision to start her own business stemmed from her deep desire to deliver care on her terms.

“I did not want to be constrained by corporate policies, she said. “I wanted to focus on what’s best for the people we support.”

Ann’s philosophy is simple, “care, care, and care.”

“It’s not about the numbers, the bottom line, or ticking boxes, it’s about delivering compassionate, personalised care,” Ann said.
