Locally Owned

Jan grew up in a small country town in outback N.S.W. before moving to Melbourne.

After relocating to Goulburn Valley 8 years ago, Jan is a classic example that “you can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl”. As the local owner of Simply Helping Goulburn Valley, living in a small country town enables Jan to connect with local communities. Jan has been sharing her passion to provide a caring and compassionate service since November 2015.

Jan was first introduced to community nursing by a colleague and immediately saw a need to provide skilled care to members of the aged community. In-home care provides valuable benefits, enabling loved ones to remain in the familiar surroundings of their own home and continue to be involved in their own community.

Simply Helping Goulburn Valley operate under the premise that everyone deserves to be treated with empathy, respect and in a non-discriminatory way.

Personal Experience

With more than 40 years of first-hand nursing experience, Jan has worked in many different areas including: acute nursing, coronary care, intensive care, palliative care, disability and aged care.

With the utmost humility, Jan explains “I was privileged to have been asked by a number of families to nurse their loved one in their own environment when no further treatment options were available. Their wish was to live their last days at home”.

Jan also feels the disability sector is incredibly rewarding. “The NDIS is a wonderful initiative that in many instances provides opportunities that otherwise would not have been possible. Our disability consumers wish to live an ordinary life with choice and dignity, and we strive to provide the care they require”.

Jan’s over-arching goal is to establish a local hospice. Every achievement that Simply Helping Goulburn Valley attains is one step closer to that.

Personal Relationships

Simply Helping Goulburn Valley covers a very large demographic area. Despite this, Jan says “The policy that underpins our service delivery is that we travel to meet and greet most of our potential new consumers and participants. We believe in taking the time it takes and everyone is provided with current knowledgeable information in an uncomplicated manner. This initial contact helps to establish a personal relationship that continues to grow and opens a line of communication that is invaluable.”
