Simply Helping Arthur to Pursue His Passions

Simply Helping North East Melbourne has been supporting Arthur since 2020 and, over the years, has become an integral part of his journey. Arthur’s story is a testament to how personalised support can help people achieve their goals while living life to the fullest.

Arthur’s Passion for Sport

Arthur’s love for AFL and soccer is more than just a hobby—it’s a way of life. As a dedicated fan, he follows Carlton in the AFL and Melbourne Victory in soccer. But Arthur isn’t content with just watching from the sidelines; he’s an active player at both his local football and soccer clubs. One of his greatest achievements came in 2023 when his football team, Parkside Football Club, won the Division 1 Grand Final.

Sport has become an important outlet for Arthur. It helps him manage his anxiety, stay physically fit, and has boosted his confidence and social engagement.

With the support of Simply Helping North East Melbourne, Arthur can participate in his community and attend his training sessions and weekend matches. We’ve had the privilege of supporting Arthur, ensuring he stays connected to the activities he loves. And, we’re proud to say we’ve certainly become some of his biggest fans.

Overcoming Challenges

Arthur has faced many challenges, but one of his biggest moments was overcoming his fear of public speaking. In 2023, Arthur took on the role of Master of Ceremonies at the International Day of People with Disabilities Expo in Thomastown. He bravely stepped up to the microphone and embraced the opportunity to engage with the community. The event was a success, and Arthur can’t wait to return as MC for the 2024 expo.

Arthur’s Next Goal

Looking ahead, Arthur is focused on building his independence with the continued support of Simply Helping. His current goals include improving his skills and development, such as managing his own transportation to and from soccer and football matches. He is also working on meal planning and cooking for his family, a new challenge that he’s tackling with enthusiasm.

Arthur frequently expresses how the team at Simply Helping makes a real difference, saying, “They are a great company to be with.” His relationship with his support workers is built on trust, compassion, and a shared goal of helping him lead an active and fulfilling life.

Arthur’s dedicated support worker, Okezi, plays a crucial role in his progress. “Arthur is a compassionate individual who exemplifies integrity, both on and off the soccer field,” Okezi shares. “He consistently demonstrates respect for everyone, maintaining a positive and encouraging atmosphere. His commitment to fair play is evident, as he refrains from using foul language. I truly enjoy supporting him each week.

Tailored Support, Lasting Impact

Arthur’s journey highlights how tailored support can help people overcome challenges, achieve goals, and live life with confidence. Simply Helping North East Melbourne is proud to be part of Arthur’s story and privileged to support him in all his future endeavours.
