Under the Victorian Charter of Rights and Responsibilities and the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights you have a right to:

Access

  • Access to support and services to assist with your care needs,
  • Access to your client information as per our policy.
  •  
    Safety

  • Receive competent, safe, quality and professional care that is appropriate to your needs.
  •  
    Respect

  • Be shown respect, dignity and consideration that is respectful of your culture, beliefs, values, disabilities, personal needs and any special requirements.
  •  
    Communication

  • To be informed in a clear, timely and open manner about services and support, and costs if relevant,
  • Be told the names and role of your support carers caring for you directly.
  •  
    Participation

  • Be included in decisions and choices about your care and support,
  • Be comfortable in asking another party (an advocate) to be involved in supporting you in decisions around your care and support.

    Privacy and Confidentiality

  • Be assured that privacy and confidentiality of all personal information provided in the care and support is maintained.
  •  
    Comment

  • You have every right to express your opinions and concerns relating to all aspects of your care, without fear of any adverse impact on your care and support.

  • Also under the same Victorian Charter of Rights and Responsibilities and the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights you have a responsibility to:

    Access

  • Be at home when the carer arrives at the arranged time,
  • Advise your Care Advisor/Simply Helping well in advance if you are unable to keep this arrangement.
  •  
    Safety

  • Advise your Care Advisor/Simply Helping of anything that may impact on your safety or comfort whilst receiving care,
  • Advise your Care Advisor/Simply Helping of anything that may impact on carer safety or comfort. E.g. smoking, animals, etc.,
  • Advise carers of any changes that you notice in your medical condition or general health.
  •  
    Respect

  • Tell the carers of circumstances concerning your culture, beliefs and disabilities, so they can respond to your needs,
  • Treat all carers with respect and dignity,
  • Understand that aggressive, violent or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated.

    Communication

  • To be as open and honest as you can and ask for more information if you do not understand,
  • Inform the carers if English is not your first language and you can be given access to an interpreter service if required.
  •  
    Participation

  • Participate in your care planning,
  • Discuss your concerns or decisions with your carers,
  • Be comfortable in asking for more information about your care and support.
  •  
    Privacy and Confidentiality

  • Respect the privacy and confidentiality of others,
  • Accept that your health information may be shared with appropriate health providers.
  •  
    Comment

  • Provide verbal or written comments, complaints or commendations,
  • Advise your carers of any concerns about any aspect of your care and support.

  • Reach-out to someone who understands
